Komodo National Park

Welcome to Komodo National Park, the world heritage sites where the very unique and wild giant lizard are lives here with their habitats, The Park Located in West Manggarai East Nusa Tenggara Province with 1,817 square km spectacular land and also marine life. Komodo dragon also found in Rinca island, Padar, and Gili Motang which is between islands of Flores and Sumbawa.

Komodo Dragons (Varanus Komodoensis) first discovered by the scientific world in 1911 by J.K.H. Van Steyn, and Komodo National Park Establish on 1980 and was declared as Word Heritage sites and Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1986, less than 2700 still lives in this island, it is among the world’s largest reptiles which can reach 3 meters long and weigh 90 kilograms, its ancestors roamed the earth up to about half a million years ago and they live in the dry savannah and monsoon forest.

Komodo National Park also home for rare birds, boar, white water buffaloes ,monkeys and snake species cobra (Naja naja sputatrix), the green tree vipers (Trimeresurus albolabris). Lizards include 9 skink species (Scinidae), geckos (Gekkonidae), limbless lizards (Dibamidae), and, of course, the monitor lizards (Varanidae). Frogs include the Asian Bullfrog (Kaloula baleata), Oreophyne jeffersoniana and Oreophyne darewskyi. They are typically found at higher, moister altitudes and other wildlife encountered all the way the trekking trails.

Komodo Dragon called ‘Ora’ by the local people, even seldom attack human, but to entering the park we must follow the ranger park for your safety, the dragon bites are fatal, due to the virulent spectrum more less 3000 bacteria in their sativa and if bitten not in good treat can caused death.

Komodo National Park also famous as one of the best dive site in the world. The richest marine environments: coral reefs, mangroves, sea grass beds, and seamounts, where lives 1000 species of fish, 300 species reef building corals, sponges, dolphin ,whale, turtles, manta ray, shark and many more. The sea it’s vibrant color and exotic life will enchant divers and snorkelers.

It takes 2 hours boating form Labuan Bajo to Rinca island and (loh Buaya) 4 hour boating from Labuan Bajo to Komodo island (Loh Liang) by traditional wooden local boat or use luxury live board vessel, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery passing the fisherman villages. most of the people nearest the island sell the komodo statue and sales it from the boat.
